OUR FAMILY WILL NEVER USE CRESTVIEW FUNERAL HOME AGAIN!!!! ACTUALLY, when we went in to make arrangements and found out how high the prices were, we could have told them we were going somewhere else, and we could have gone to Bells in Forestdale or New Horizon in Dora and had one of them go and pick him up at Crestview and finish handling all the services for us....and all we would have had to pay crestivew for would have been pick up and embalming...... and we would have been MUCH MORE SATISFIED SOMEWHERE ELSE! Actually, crestview seemed so "1980's" to us....seems like it still looks just like it did when they opened it back in the 80's, same color walls and VERY SAME furniture! After seeing Bells and New Horizon, BOTH OF THEM looked more modernized and up-to-date to me and my family. Mr. Minyard is no longer at crestview either....he is the manager at New Horizon now. He still makes bodies look so peaceful and natural... The bodies don't look like they have a ton of make up on or swollen...and another person that does such a great job is Jeff Jones at Bells in forestale. He worked with Mr. Minyard for years and years...and does the same great work Mr. Minyard does!
Their base price was almost $7,000, and it did NOT include a casket or vault, flowers, opening/closing the grave, newspaper obituary, police escort or other third party charges! The $7,000 was for their services (Availability of funeral director and staff, picking him up at the house, taking him to the funeral home, embalming him, dressing, applying cosmetics, picking him up and laying him in the casket, the hearse taking him to the cemetery, and flower van to take FIVE flowers to the cemetery! They wanted to charge us $7,500 for the casket we wanted, but we found it online for $1,995.00 which included overnight flying it into Birmingham, and delivery to the funeral home. (BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE MANAGER OF THE FUNERAL HOME CALLED US WHEN THEY DELIVERED THE CASKET, AND TOLD US THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO COME AND UNLOAD AND UNPACK THE CASKET BECAUSE WE DIDN'T BUY IT FROM THEM!!!! They wanted almost $2,000 for a basic concrete vault, but we got the VERY SAME ONE directly from the vault company for $700 and the vault company included the tent, chairs, lowering device, and turf at the cemetery (We also found out this is the same $2000 vault that the funeral home would have provided....and the same vault company would have supplied the same tent, chairs, lowering device, and turf to the funeral home for $700. The only thing DIFFERENT would have been instead of ME ordering it, the funeral home would have ordered it from them, and although the funeral home would have NEVER touched the vault, they were going to mark it up $1300! That's $1300 just to make a phone call and ORDER the vault..... the same thing that took me 5 minutes to do!
